Hi I’m Kyle Panter. I’m the vice president of innovation with the Apothecary Shoppes. I want to talk to you really quick about a frequently asked question I receive for men about, “Do I need to replace any hormones as I age?” The answer to that is simply yes.
One of the main hormones men lose as we age is testosterone. The consequences of that would be you’ll notice your energy level is starting to decrease. Maybe you don’t quite have that zip in your step that that you use to.
You come home from work and don’t have the energy to go out and mow the yard like you used to and said you wanted to just become a couch potato. Some men experience depression or anxiety. Some men actually have hot flashes much like women as they go through menopause. Men go through andropause and they can have hot flashes.
Some guys even have trouble sleeping, so all to say is we at the Apothecary Shoppe specialize in replacing the testosterone for men. It’s based upon a blood sample, blood test or your symptoms and what’s really neat is we’re able to customize it. We can really make it fit you as an individual rather than fitting you in some box and then saying you’re this dose or that dose. We can get really specific.
I want to show you real quickly how we can do that. One way is through a topical cream. It will come in a dispenser kind of like this where basically you’ll dispense one pump of this cream, apply it on a smooth skin area one time a day and the hormone is transferred through your skin into your blood stream that way.
Another popular way we do is through a dosage form called a troche. Troches look kind of like this. These are really neat. You basically park them between your cheek and gum, they melt in about five to ten minutes and they could deliver the hormone through your gums into your bloodstream that way.
Whichever way you prefer, we’d love to help you anyway we can. If you have any questions about male hormone replacement or andropause, feel free to call or talk to one of our pharmacists or staff at any of the Apothecary Shoppes, Tulsa Pharmacy.
I’m Kyle Painter. I’m the Vice President of Innovation for the Apothecary Shoppe. Currently we’re in our Broken Arrow store location, 510 North Elm Place. I want to talk to you a little bit about some frequently asked questions that I get from time to time. One of the most common ones is, “What exactly is compounding?” I’ve heard about it, I’ve heard some mention of it from some of my friends or some of my family members has use a compounding pharmacy. What exactly is that?
Compounding is an ancient practice where pharmacist literally combine several ingredients together into one product. It could be a capsule, it could be a cream, it could be suppositories, it could be even an eye drop. We take active ingredients combine them into one entity and we gently do so because we’re able to make customized medication to meet specific need for patient.
For example, if someone has an allergy to red dye and they need an antibiotic that has that red dye in it. We can make that antibiotic for them dye free. Therefore, it removes the issue with the allergen. Pediatrics, kids are very hard to medicate. They need very tiny, very specific dosage. That’s what we specialize in doing. We’re able to create customized medications for those infants and for those toddlers that need their specific need.
That’s in a nut shell what compounding is. We’re making very specialized medication for the individual that meets specific need that they have.
